One laptop per child

Happened to see the images of MIT's 100$ laptops. MIT's 'one laptop per child' research project is in the process of developing 100$ laptops for children across the world. Looks like the project is almost complete and we can sign up now for a pledge to buy them for 300$ so that 2 of them will go to the children for free.

The amazing thing about these laptops is their configuration:

o/s: special version of fedora linux
processor speed: 500 MHZ
RAM: 1GB (Yep..!!!!)
4 USB ports
Built-in wireless support.

Kudos to the team and the sponsors (Google, Nortel, AMD, RedHat etc).
